Is Bread Killing Us? What The China Study says about your heart

Last weekend I was invited to a screening of the film Forks Over Knives. It is a film that I have been meaning to see for some time and I am very glad I saw it.  It advocates for a plant-based diet, citing multiple studies, one of which is the "Grand Prix of Epidemiology" - The China Study.

The China Study is a twenty-year effort conducted by Cornell University's Dr. Colin Campbell to study the eating habits and health of the Chinese people.

So how does my viewing of this film apply to you and your heart?

Is bread like crack for you?

Are you addicted to bread, cookies and pasta?  You might be interested to know that wheat affects the brain much like heroin does, causing feelings of euphoria when you eat it and withdrawal when you don't.

Whaaaaat?  Why doesn't the average bagel-chomping person know this?

Is that "evil" white powder really the problem?

Is that "evil" white powder really the problem?

Everywhere you look in the health world, you will see some expose, article, book, or video that slams sugar. It contains no nutrition, it rots your teeth, it causes hyperactivity in kids, it's addictive... you name it, if it's bad, sugar does it.  Right?!

But what if sugar wasn't really the evil substance it is made out to be? What if it were possible to kick the habit naturally?

Check out the video below to think about sugar in a whole new way.

If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy

"If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."

From where I sit, that is pure, unadulterated fact.

And I don't mean it in the sense like, "if I'm not happy, I can make you unhappy."  I simply mean that when mama is happy, mama is healthy.  And when mama is healthy, watch out!  'Cause girl can get stuff done!  She can take amazing care of her family and keep everyone healthy and happy!

And that is coming from a mama who has seen the other side and who values her health and happiness above all!

There's something I've noticed about you...

Over the years, I have paid attention to the way women operate when it comes to taking care of themselves.  I've also analyzed my own way of going through life and I have come to realize...

Women resist putting themselves first!  And when they do put themselves first, a massive feeling of guilt takes them over and they feel plain uncomfortable.

But what happens when you put everyone else first and ignore yourself?  It's a total train wreck!  Your body, your mind and the absolute core of your being all suffer.

It doesn't have to be that way.

Snickers, Pecan Pie & Gingerbread Men, Oh MY!

Snickers bars, pecan pie, and little frosted gingerbread men.  They are most definitely coming your way.  As we head into the cooler, darker months, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the winter Holidays approach.

Philosophy of The Suburban Wellness Protocol

Have you heard the buzz about The Suburban Wellness Protocol?  The prospect of leading a large group of women toward better health is VERY exciting!

If you have been eating poorly and struggling with time management and self-care, this is the program for you!  It is the only program I have seen to directly address the issues of the overwhelmed suburban woman.

I received multiple emails over the weekend asking me to outline my nutritional philosophy.  Here it is:

My approach to nutrition is based on a number of different dietary theories.  I use pieces of:

Introducing..... The Suburban Wellness Protocol

Have you been eating poorly, getting too little sleep, too little exercise and too little down-time?  Are you running around like a chicken, holding onto extra weight, struggling with fatigue, irritability & digestive issues, only to collapse in a heap at the end of another overwhelming day?tired

You are not alone.

A little tip for the change of seasons

As summer ends and autumn begins, an interesting thing happens in the body.  According to Ayurveda (the 2000+ year-old medical approach practiced in India), the heat from the summer builds up in your body at the end of the season causing multiple symptoms:  runny nose, seasonal allergies, dry skin, sluggish digestion, etc.  In other words, it won't be long before we are all sniffling, scratching and wondering why we are feeling so miserable.  But there is good news.

There are four cooling foods that you can eat right now which will help get rid of the excess heat in your body:
