If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy

"If mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."

From where I sit, that is pure, unadulterated fact.

And I don't mean it in the sense like, "if I'm not happy, I can make you unhappy."  I simply mean that when mama is happy, mama is healthy.  And when mama is healthy, watch out!  'Cause girl can get stuff done!  She can take amazing care of her family and keep everyone healthy and happy!

And that is coming from a mama who has seen the other side and who values her health and happiness above all!

Corny cliche aside, I am a firm believer that happiness and health go hand-in-hand.  In my work with busy suburban moms, I see first hand the danger in living an over-stressed and over-whelmed life. When there is too little time to pay attention to our own health and happiness, we begin to struggle with taking care of everything else.  And when that happens, a big red flag should go up!

Today, I am going to share my 3 ways to get happier and healthier right now:

3 WAYS TO KEEP MAMA HAPPY... STARTING NOW!

1.  Say "No" to the next thing that you feel you "should" do.  You know what I mean.  When you receive a call or email asking if you can donate time, take on a volunteer position, bake cupcakes, or do anything that doesn't absolutely THRILL you, just say no.  Don't worry, it will get easier the more times you say it.  This will prevent resentment and stress around doing something that feels burdensome.  Instead, use that time to do something you REALLY want to do.

2.  Feed yourself well.  By "feed" yourself, I mean pay attention to two types of food: primary food and secondary food.  Primary food is the food that fuels us on a deep level -- good relationships, a creative outlet (career or hobby), lots of fresh air and exercise, a connection to the "big picture", etc. Secondary food is the stuff we put in our mouths -- food & drink.  When the primary stuff is in order, we are in less danger of over-doing it and suffering from addiction to sugar, processed & nutritionally void foods, alcohol, etc.  Make sense?

3.  Do something nice for yourself every single day.  And why not?  If you are a working mama or a stay-at-home mama, you should be able to find a minute to do something nice for yourself every day.  Otherwise, what is the point of this life? This doesn't have to mean dropping lots of cash, but it might.  Whatever you do, take a few minutes out of your daily routine to do something that will make you feel like the amazing woman you are!

So all you mamas out there... it's time to get happy and create a ripple effect of health and happiness that will affect everyone around you!
